Signs of rebound for US beef

10/05/2023

New figures from the US Department of Agriculture suggest a rebound for exports of beef.
Packer firms exported more than 120,000 tonnes in March 2023, bringing in revenues of $892.6 million. These figures continue to represent a fall in volume and in value, of 5% and 17% respectively year on year.

However, the March figures were the highest for five months.

US beef exports in the first quarter of the year reached 326,494 tonnes and brought in revenues of $2.35 billion, falls of 8% and 22% respectively compared to the first quarter of 2022.

The chief executive of the US Meat Export Federation, Dan Halstrom, said: “US beef exports faced considerable headwinds late last year and at the beginning of 2023, but the March results show some encouraging trends.”
