Ten-month figures behind target for Bangladesh leather
Tanners in Bangladesh exported finished leather worth $103 million in the first ten months of the current financial year, the period from July 2022 to April 2023, down by more than 20% compared to the figure for the same months in the previous period.
There was also a decline in exports of leather footwear, which fell in value by 4.4% to reach $580 million over the ten months.
Leathergoods exports rose in value, though, reaching more than $320 million, an increase of 18.2%.
Bangladesh’s export promotions bureau has set the leather industry an export revenue target of more than $1.4 billion for he current financial year and has talked of increasing that target to $12 billion by 2030.
