USMEF finds grounds for hope as US beef exports stall

US beef exports reached a volume of 206,000 tonnes in the first two months of this year and brought in revenues of a little under $1.5 billion.

These figures represent a decline of 9.5% in volume and of 24% in value year on year.

Commenting on the figures, the chief executive of the US Meat Export Federation, Dan Halstrom, said he had been encouraged by a modest rebound in the figures for February compared to the previous month.

He added that he was also taking hope from the continuing easing of restrictions on people’s ability to go out to eat or to travel in many important Asian markets. “We expect to see a continued boost in restaurant traffic and foodservice demand as the year progresses,” Mr Halstrom said.
