Exporters of hides from US shipped a little over 4.75 million pieces in the first two months of this year. This brought in $185.7 million.

Compared to the same months in 2022, these figures represent a fall of 14.5% in volume and of 14.7% in value.

The total for January and February 2023 includes 4.25 million wet-salted hides and just under 520,000 wet blue, falls of 14% and 13% respectively. In terms of value, wet-salted brought in just short of $130.4 million, down by 16%, while wet blue brought in $55.3 million, down by 13%.

Shipments of wet-salted hides to China fell by 9% in value, but by only 1% in volume year on year.

Italy’s imports of US wet blue brought some rare good news. Shipments were up by 21% in volume and by 40% in value.
