Leather watch-strap manufacturers’ association AQC (Association pour l’Assurance Qualité des Fabricants de Bracelets Cuir) has announced a new project to harmonise work to establish a lifecycle assessment for straps made using alligator leather.

The Switzerland-based body has said it aims establish a credible, recognised and transparent methodology for calculating the carbon footprint of the material. It said it intended to share results among all stakeholders.

It said leather manufacturers would be part of the exercise, alongside alligator farmers, bracelet manufacturers, watch brands and industry experts would work together on the project.

AQC announced that it will hold a launch meeting for the project in Geneva on June 26.
