Decline in demand for double-face goes on

22/03/2023

Tanners in Turkey continue to complain of a downturn in demand for double-face lamb and sheepskin leathers.

Reports suggest facilities with the capacity to process 10,000 skins per day and were running at 100% until around 2010 are currently working at daily levels nearer 1,000 skins.

Commentators have said two main factors account for the slowdown in activity. Trade relations with Russia have been much more problematic in recent years, for a number of reasons.

Secondly, they are sure climate change has played a part. Winters, in general, have fewer days of cold weather and consumers have less need than before of the warm coats and jackets that double-face is so well suited to.
