Uzbekistan to expand Azerbaijan leather exports
According to local media, the Uzcharmsanoat, the Uzbek leather industry association, is planning to increase exports of leather-based merchandise, including footwear and fur products to Azerbaijan.
In a statement made by Fakhriddin Boboev, Chairman of the Uzcharmsanoat, he said goods to the value of $94,600 were exported to Azerbaijan in January 2022 and that plans to increase this to as much as $500,000 in 2023 were in work, “contacts have been established with massive enterprises of Azerbaijan to make sure their participation in worldwide exhibitions held in Uzbekistan”.
It is understood that the country is also considering the implementation of hundreds of funding initiatives for the creation of new enterprises in 2023 and to attract $420 million of investment for modernisation and capacity improvements. As a result of these, Mr Boboev concluded that, along with other materials, “a further 2.3 million square metres of leather based goods will be produced”.
