Upcycling innovations sought by Tyson
Meat and leather producer Tyson Foods is looking for companies to take part in an event it calls Tyson Demo Day. It will take place at the group’s headquarters in Arkansas on July 11. It launched this initiative in 2022.
Its theme this year is upcycling innovation; the group has said its aim is “to identify breakthrough upcycling technologies” to it and the meat and livestock industry at large become more sustainable.
Chief finance officer, John Tyson, said the group wanted to “embrace the circular economy and put waste to work, reimagining and reusing materials and working to reduce our environmental footprint”.
It has invited start-up companies to apply to take part; they have until May 1 to submit an application. Successful applicants will be invited to “pitch in person” at Demo Day 2023 and demonstrate their upcycling solutions.
Following this, up to six start-ups will be selected to engage with the group’s senior leadership teams and potentially partner with Tyson to test their innovations in real market conditions.
Last year, more than 120 start-ups from more than 20 countries applied and 20 finalists pitched at Demo Day. As a result, six start-ups were selected and connected with Tyson Foods leaders for potential partnership opportunities.
