Limited local supply drives cattle imports into Turkey

Growth in Turkey’s population and high meat prices in the domestic market are driving imports of live cattle from overseas into the country.

Commentators in Turkey have said the supply of domestic cattle to meat companies is no longer enough to keep up with demand.

According to reports, recent live cattle imports have included 150,000 head from Brazil and, perhaps more surprisingly, 50,000 head from Hungary.
