Shoe and leather components exports from Brazil grow in value in 2022
Brazil’s exports of components for leather and footwear increased by 12% in 2022. Data prepared by the Brazilian Association of Leather, Footwear and Components Companies (Assintecal) show that, last year, exports from the sector generated $421.2 million.
Exports of these components reached 77 countries around the world and more than 150 types of product were exported.
Assintecal noted that the adjustment of production in the post-pandemic period, the reintegration of China into the international market after the end of the zero-covid policy and the increase in costs led to a slowdown in the final months of 2022.
The main destination last year was Argentina, which imported products worth $83.5 million in 2022, registering an increase of 28% compared to the previous year.
The second-biggest destination for the sector was China, with $81.6 million worth of exports, 5% less than in 2021, then Portugal, which contributed $44.5 million, an increase of 23% over the previous year.
Shipments to the US reached $10.5 million, an increase of 54% compared to 2021.
In 2022, the most exported materials by sector were chemicals for leather, which generated $196.78 million, an increase of 8% compared to 2021; shoe uppers worth $111.63 million, an increase of 5%; chemicals or adhesives for footwear production were worth $50 million, a 29% rise, and soles $25.2 million, a 35% increase.
