ECHA adds to candidate list of substances of very high concern

23/01/2023

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has added nine chemicals to its candidate list of substances of very high concern. This brings the total list of chemicals on the list to 233.

Of the nine most recent additions, ECHA identifies two that have leather production among the examples of use. These two substances are melamine and 4,4’-sulphonyldiphenol.

Under REACH legislation, companies have an obligation to give customers notice if an article contains a candidate-list substance above a concentration of 0.1% by weight.

Suppliers of substances on the candidate list, supplied on their own or in mixtures, have to provide their customers with a safety data sheet.
