UN approves International Day of Zero Waste idea
The United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution titled ‘Promoting zero waste initiatives to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’.
The resolution was introduced by Turkey and the general assembly also decided to proclaim March 30 as the International Day of Zero Waste, to be observed annually.
Upon introducing the draft resolution, the representative of Turkey noted that the amount of waste forecast to be generated would increase substantially in the coming years, making the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development difficult to achieve.
The UN Secretary General will set up an advisory board to monitor the situation.
