Strong figures overall for India’s leather-sector

During the first seven months of India’s current financial year (April-October 2022), the country’s leather industry achieved $3.2 billion in export earnings, the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has reported. This represents an increase of more than 20% year on year.

Shipments of finished leather brought in $256.9 million, down by 2.5% compared to the same months in the previous financial year. The figure for leather footwear was more than $1.4 billion, up by 32.3%, while the figure for leather garments was $221.5 million up by 8.9%.

Exports of leathergoods increased to more than $800 million, a rise of 9%.
