Mothballed meat processing plant has new owner

A meat-packing plant in Uruguay, Frigorífico Florida, which closed in 2019 when its then-owners ran into financial trouble, has been sold at auction.
Only one bid was received and the buyer is state bank BROU. It offered $6 million for the facility.
According to reports, BROU has already held talks with private investors who want to restart production at the site.
There is speculation that demand for Uruguayan beef could pick up in China, but only approved packing plants can ship meat from the South American country to Chinese customers.
