Airline takes delivery of first Chinese-made jet
China Eastern Airlines took delivery of the first C919 narrow-body passenger jet on December 9. The aircraft will go into service on the airlines Beijing-Shanghai route in the early months of 2023.
This is the first C919 that Chinese manufacturer Comac has delivered. The authorities in China have encouraged the domestic manufacturer to develop its own passenger jets to reduce Chinese airlines’ dependency on Boeing and Airbus.
Comac has said it will be able to produce 25 of the 164-seat C919s by the end of the decade.
