Tanning group joins red-shoe protest
Leather manufacturer Gruppo Dani marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 by placing a symbolic red shoe on its Instagram profile.
Red shoes became a symbol of protest against violence against women when Mexican artist Elina Chauvet used the footwear in a street-art installation in Ciudad Juárez in 2009. The colour of the shoes represents the blood of victims of violence.
Ms Chauvet followed this up with similar displays in other cities and the symbol soon caught the attention of people around the world.
Gruppo Dani was one of many companies that have said the gesture of placing a red shoe at their sites or on social media platforms are a symbol of commitment to ending violence against women.
