Film-maker makes leather’s case in the wake of COP27
The director of ‘Sacred Cow’, Diana Rodgers, has taken to social media to point out the irony of delegates at the recent United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt sitting on plastic chairs.
Sacred Cow, a book and documentary that presented arguments in favour of cattle farming and meat-eating, came out in 2020.
Three years on, Ms Rodgers travelled to Egypt for COP27 and said afterwards that a lack of accurate information about leather among companies and consumers was the reason for millions of hides ending up in landfill every year.
She said on LinkedIn that this was leading to a natural raw material being substituted by synthetics, with the upholstery on the seats at COP27 a prime example of how common this has become.
“We are wasting a sustainable, durable, and beautiful product from the land, simply because people and companies are grossly misinformed about reality,” the filmmaker said.
