Veg-tan leather manufacturers in Turkey have expressed fears about a possible steep hike in the price of mimosa extract.

Turkish tanners have traditionally imported substantially more mimosa from South Africa than from Brazil because they have found material from South American suppliers to be expensive.

However, in recent months, sourcing material from South Africa has become more difficult because shipments have been held up by industrial action at ports there.

Industry commentators in Turkey have said they expect costs to go up by between 30% and 40% as a result of the upheaval.
