Shortage of skilled artisans in French luxury sector
An association that represents the 100 companies active in the production of luxury products in France, Comité Colbert, has said that there is a shortage of 20,000 skilled workers in the French luxury manufacturing sector.
As a result, luxury brands are facing grave problems in recruiting and training leather workers in the face of booming demand for luxury goods.
In order to address this problem, Comité Colbert’s Bénédicte Epinay has organised a three-day event in December at Paris’s Station F start-up campus.
Her aim is to attract high-school students to the event at Station F and to persuade them to consider a career as leather artisans. Ms Epinay will talk to the students about the recruitment and training programmes already in place at leathergoods groups such as LVMH, Kering and Hermès and encourage them to apply.
