Arzignano-based biotech company ILSA, which specialises in transforming leather trimmings into bio-stimulants for agriculture, has been acquired by a US group.

Atlanta-based JM Huber Corporation, a $3 billion group that provides products for agriculture, chemicals, food and beverage, automotive and other industries, has announced the acquisition of Biolchim, the Bologna-based group that has a majority stake in ILSA.

Huber said its aim is to become “the leading provider of specialty products, particularly bio-stimulants, for the global agriculture industry globally”.

ILSA president, Paolo Girelli, said: “The fact that Huber has invested directly in our company is very important for the future of ILSA and for Vicenza. We plan to enhance research activity with the expansion of our laboratories and the recruitment of new researchers. The already important collaboration with Veneto universities will accelerate.”

An immediate benefit for ILSA will be a major boost to its ability to sell its products in North America. It also said it would accelerate the construction of new industrial plants in various countries around the world and to achieve growth in places such as the Middle East and Brazil.
