Handbags the highlight in H1 growth for Burberry

Luxury group Burberry has reported revenues of more than £1.3 billion for the first half of its current business year, the six months to October 1. This figure represents growth of almost 11% year on year.

It said its leathergoods division had seen “above average comparable store sales growth”, driven by sales of its Lola handbag range. It said the Lola (pictured) was its new bestseller, but also pointed to a positive reception for its Frances bags in the autumn-winter 2022-2023 collection.

Leathergoods sales were up by 11% over the six-month period and by 15% in the second quarter on its own.

Chief executive, Jonathan Akeroyd, commented: “Burberry has an extraordinary legacy, a unique British heritage and a very strong platform to build on.”
