Automotive growth keeps Wuji tanners hopeful
Like their counterparts in other parts of China, leather manufacturers in the Wuji tanning district have been frustrated by the interruptions to production that covid-19 lockdowns have caused.
According to local reports, however, they are looking forward to better times ahead in the near future, thanks to growth in China’s automotive market.
There are projections of sales of 22.5 million or 23 million passenger vehicles for 2022 and this would represent an increase of 5% year on year.
Leather producers in Wuji have expressed hope that this will keep demand for automotive leather healthy and help steady the fortunes of local tanners.
