Uruguay beefs up its World Cup squad
As well as coaches, a medical team, technical staff and, of course, players, two-time winner of the FIFA World Cup Uruguay arrived for the 2022 event in Qatar with 900 kilos of beef.
The South American country’s national meat industry body, INAC, said it hoped the squad’s decision to base its diet for the tournament on beef from back home would help promote Uruguayan beef around the world.
INAC president, Conrado Ferber, said at the time of the squad’s departure for the Middle East that beef, like football, was part of Uruguay’s national identity.
