New Zealand hosts leather science and technology conference
The twelfth Asia International Conference of Leather Science and Technology (AICLST) took place in Queenstown, New Zealand, at the end of October.
The AICLST seeks to foster strong and lasting bonds between leather scientists across the international community and those companies engaged in leather production as well as the chemical companies who deliver the products used in the manufacture of leather.
The programme covered the latest advances in leather science and technology, including topics ranging from structural studies and chemical interactions at the most fundamental level to application of advanced detection techniques, methods for cleaner leather production using more benign reagents, and novel uses for some of the industry’s by-products and waste streams.
One of the guests was Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer, head of business development and industry relations at TFL, who led an on-site mini symposium with a group of 25 people from two of the major tanning groups in New Zealand at a venue in Whanganui.
