Electric car sales up in the UK

12/10/2022

The new car market in the UK was up in September compared to last year, and there was a surge in interest in electric cars.

While the total number of new cars sold in September, 225,000, was 4.6% up on the same month in 2021, it was still almost 35% behind where the market was before the covid-19 pandemic.

In the first nine months of 2022, more than 175,000 new electric cars have been sold in the UK. In total, more than 392,000 electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars were sold during the nine month period to September. Conversely, just over 67 thousand diesel-powered cars were sold, a decline of 43% on the first nine months of 2021.
