In the first half of 2022 German leathergoods and luggage manufacturers achieved a total turnover of €276.8 million.

This figure represents an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period last year but is still substantially down on pre-pandemic levels.

Employment in the sector increase by 6.4% in the first half of 2022, reaching 966 employees.

All of these figures are based on companies with 50 employees or more. Industry body HDSL has said the total number of people working in the industry, including in small companies, is likely to be around 2,700.
