Pakistan’s leather exports down
Leather-sector exports from Pakistan declined in value in the first two months of the current financial year, July and August 2022.
The country’s Bureau of Statistics (PBS) confirmed that leather exports declined by 2.9% in value, totalling $103.8 million, compared to the $106.3 million in the same period of 2021.
Exports of finished leather generated $31 million, which reflected an increase of 8.5% in value compared to the first two months of the previous fiscal year.
Pakistan was severely affected by flooding in June, July and August, leading to more than 1,500 fatalities and economic losses that the government has valued at $30 billion. At one point, the government said one-third of Pakistan’s territory was under water and it declared a state of emergency in late August.
