Biomass energy progress at Silvateam

Leather chemicals manufacturer Silvateam has completed a project to use 100% biomass as the source of energy at its factory in La Escondida in Argentina and intends to replicate the feat soon at its facility at  San Michele Mondovì in northern Italy.

The director of the company’s leather business unit, Antonio Battaglia, shared the information at the Sustainable Leather Forum in Paris on September 12.

Silvateam has been working for some time on projects to turn the wood biomass that results as a by-product from its process to extract the natural tannins it develops for use in leather manufacture and other applications.

It subjects the wood to only one process, treating it with hot water at high pressure.
