Fall in beef imports into China hits steer prices
After importing a record amount of beef from Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay in July, Chinese purchases slowed in the last two weeks of August and into September.
The impact of China’s influence on the supply chain can be seen from the weakness displayed by steer prices in the Southern Cone.
The average value of the steer for slaughter in Mercosur fell 9 cents in the week to US$ 3.82 per kilo carcass, the lowest level since last November, ten months ago.
