Mexican footwear exports to grow by 50% this year

Footwear industry body CICEG has estimated that Mexican footwear exports may reach 35 million pairs in volume by the end of 2022.

CICEG president, Alfredo Padilla Villalpando, said this estimated figure would represent a large increase on previous years, including pre-pandemic years. The total for 2019 was 22 million.

Mr Padilla said Mexican footwear manufacturers were experiencing an increase in shipments to the US; buyers in the US are sourcing fewer shoes from China owing to ongoing covid-19 restrictions there and logistics problems.
