Spain’s leather exports are ahead of pre-pandemic levels

01/09/2022

Figures for the first five months of 2022 show that tanners in Spain exported finished leather with a value of €180 million, an increase of 34% compared to the same months last year.

Shipments of semi-finished leather had a value of €30.6 million, up by 19.4% year on year, and there was growth too for exports of raw hides, up in value by 9.6% to bring in €68.6 million.

These figures are well ahead of the corresponding amounts for 2020, when the industry felt the early effects of the covid-19 pandemic keenly, but they also show growth for finished and semi-finished leather compared to the first five months of 2019. This year’s export values are 8.9% and 35.7% higher, respectively.
