Cattle carcass weights for 2022 are Australia’s highest ever

Abattoirs in Australia processed almost 1.5 million head of cattle in the second quarter of the calendar year an increase of 11.2% year on year, the country’s official bureau of statistics (ABS) has reported.

Carcass weights in 2022 have been the highest on record for Australian cattle. The average weight in the second quarter was 317.6 kilos. Red meat promotions body Meat and Livestock Australia said this was higher than the figure for any other quarter in Australia’s history, except the average carcass weight for the first quarter of 2022.
