LWG expands list of approved social audit providers
Multi-stakeholder body the Leather Working Group (LWG) has added certification body the Sustainable Leather Foundation (SLF) to the small group of organisations whose audits will count towards its own audit approval.
The latest LWG protocol, version seven, includes a social audit requirement; this is the first time a social audit requirement has been included.
Social criteria have never been part of LWG audits and it has an approved list of other audit service providers whose certification information it will accept for this part of an LWG audit.
SLF has now joined Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA), the Higg’s Facility Social & Labour Module (FSLM), the Responsible Business Alliance’s Validated Assessment Program (VAP), SA8000 Standard from Social Accountability International, UNIC’s Code of Conduct and Social Accountability, amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), and the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) as approved providers of social audits and certifications.
SLF was set up in 2020 by Deborah Taylor, who had previously been manager of LWG for around five years.
