Economic slowdown sets alarms ringing in China
24/08/2022
China’s National Bureau of Statistics has reported growth of only 0.4% in the country’s economy in the second quarter of 2022. It grew by 4.8% in the first quarter.
The bureau gave a figure of 2.5% growth for the first six months of the year. The central government has set a target of 5.5% growth for the full year.
Lockdowns in major cities, including Shanghai, from March to May, have contributed to the slowdown.
