Uruguay’s cattle herd-size remains steady

The recently completed annual survey of livestock in Uruguay for the 2021-22 fiscal year shows that the country’s bovine herd is 11.9 million head, flat with the figure for the previous year.
Minister of livestock and agriculture, Fernando Mattos, said this indicated stability in the cattle herd-size, despite a high level of slaughter. He added that there had been a small growth, 1%, in the sheep flock, which reached 6.25 million.
