US shoe imports up by more than 25%
The US commerce department has reported footwear imports for the first six months of this year of 1.35 billion pairs, an increase of 27.4% year on year.
The main supplier was China with 783.7 million pairs, up by 28.8% compared to the first half of 2021. Vietnam followed with exports of 311.7 million pairs, up 11.9% compared to the same period in 2021.
There were higher rates of growth in shoe exports from a number of other countries.
Indonesia shipped almost 100 million pairs, up by 47.4%, while the figure for Cambodia was 43.3 million pairs, up by 54.1%, and India achieved shipments of 21.4 million pairs, growth of 53.6%.
