Brazil to have new footwear fair

National footwear industry body Abicalçados has announced that it will launch a new twice-yearly footwear event in 2023.

The new exhibition, the Brazilian Footwear Show, will launch in Porto Alegre on November 21-23, 2023. A second edition will follow from May 22-24, 2024, this time with São Paulo as the host city.

Abicalçados intends to maintain this rhythm, with the Porto Alegre event giving footwear manufacturers a chance to present collections for the following year’s autumn-winter (the middle of the calendar year in Brazil, of course), and the São Paulo edition providing a platform spring-summer shoes.

It will work with the Brazilian subsidiary of exhibition organiser Messe Nürnberg to plan the exhibition and put it on.

Executive president of Abicalçados, Haroldo Ferreira, said the industry body had carried out surveys of business leaders in the footwear and retail sectors to learn their opinions on holding in-person events in the post-pandemic world and to quiz them on ideal locations and dates.

He said one of the ideas to have emerged from these discussions was that the cost of exhibition should be “extremely competitive”, and he insisted it would be 30% cheaper for exhibitors to take part in the Brazilian Footwear Show compared to similar fairs.
