Meat packers strike in Uruguay

10/08/2022

The Workers Federation of Meat and Allied Industries of Uruguay (Foica) launched a national strike at the start of August . The measure was adopted at midnight on August 4 and included a demonstration in the centre of the city of Durazno.

The reaction of the meat industry was to say it had been “taken hostage” by these actions.

The decision to strike was triggered by the dismissal of two workers in the packing plant located in Santa Bernardina, Durazno, which Foica considered unjustified.
