Domestic demand dominates Courovale’s production
Brazilian leather manufacturer Courovale is currently sending 70% of its production to local manufacturers of shoes, accessories and leathergoods, while 30% is exported on behalf of US brands to manufacturing plants in Vietnam, China, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
“In 2019 our export ratio was 50-50 but during 2020 we had a lot of cancellations,” stated Courovale’s export manager, Veronica Meurer.
“People did not even know if they were going to receive the hides,” she said, “or if they were going to be able to work with them because they were not sure if their factories were going to be open or not.”
Ms Meurer predicted that the former domestic sales-export ratio would reestablish itself and come back into balance as it was not safe to have so much leather production depending on the local market.
The company’s production is dedicated to fashion leathers concentrating on the production of printed leathers, with a wide variety of colours and textures.
Courovale also offers a leather customisation service to customers that require a certain colour or textures to match the trend that they want to incorporate into their upcoming collections.
