The 12th Asia International Conference on Leather Science and Technology (AICLST) will take place from October 18-20 in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The venue will be Massey University’s Sport and Rugby Institute.

Conference organiser and director of the New Zealand Leather and Shoe Research Association (LASRA), Geoff Holmes, has said registration is now open for abstracts from potential presenters and for delegates wishing to attend in person or virtually.

He said the three-day programme will “seek to stimulate discussion and bring together the wider leather community of scientists, leather manufacturing companies and chemical and equipment suppliers”.

There will be seven main themes: advances in basic leather science; raw stock improvement; closed-loop processing; value-added uses for waste streams; environmental protection; traceability and advances in machinery.

The event coincides with LASRA’s 75th anniversary and Mr Holmes said the organisation was keen for scientists and industry chemists from across the globe to join it “for this joyous occasion”, and take the opportunity to foster international communication and collaboration across the leather community, and boost advancement in leather science.
