LCA ‘firsts’ as Scottish Leather Group publishes new ESG report
Scottish Leather Group published a new environmental, social and governance (ESG) report on July 20.
On releasing the report, the leather manufacturing group pointed out that it includes, in full, data from independently verified lifecycle analysis (LCA) exercises that its Muirhead and Bridge of Weir companies have carried out.
According to Scottish Leather Group, Muirhead is the first high-performance leather manufacturer in the world, and Bridge of Weir the first automotive leather manufacturer in the world to publish independently verified LCAs.
Dr Warren Bowden, the group’s head of innovation and sustainability, said LCA was “a powerful carbon accounting tool for measuring how responsible our consumption of raw materials and our production of leather is”. He added that publishing LCA data would enable “a true and fair comparison against the impact of other products and materials”.
