Investment in hide quality gives abattoir new lease of life
After a year’s work involving workers and livestock farmer partners, an abattoir in the small French town of Saint-Céré has passed a final audit carried out by the country’s hides and skins federation, SGCP.
The Saint-Céré facility is confident it can now look forward to receiving orders for calfksins and other raw materials from tanners supplying France’s major luxury brands.
Its efforts to win SGCP approval have included renovation and refurbishment at the abattoir and training of the workforce in removing hides and skins with minimum damage.
