Alpa-GSC move to enhance Italian leather chemicals sector
Two Italian leather chemicals groups, GSC and Alpa, have announced “a historic collaboration” to improve the distribution of their products and strengthen customer service and support in the Veneto tanning district.
Lombardy-based Alpa supplies chemicals for the footwear and leathergoods sectors, while Veneto-based GSC specialises in chemicals for the automotive and upholstery leather sectors.
Under the new agreement, GSC will provide logistical and technical support to tanners in and around Arzignano who use Alpa products. The two groups have said this will lead to further synergies, including joint purchasing of raw materials to achieve critical mass and stability of supply in the context of “unstable market trends”.
Alpa chief executive, Gloria Gualtieri, said at the time of the announcement: “This is essentially a matter of combining forces while keeping our respective identities and specialisms distinct. For Alpa customers in the Veneto district, there will be no change from the past, but they will have benefits in terms of speed of response.”
For his part, GSC president, Adriano Serafini, said: “Cooperation conceived in this way gives us the chance to be flexible and to deal with a company that has a background and experience similar to ours. It is an opportunity to renew ourselves, face common problems and enhance the Italian chemical industry.”
