SUVs hold their own, but China’s vehicle production falls by nearly 10%
China’s association of automobile manufacturers has reported production figures of just over 9.6 million for the first five months of 2022, a decline of 9.6% year on year.
Passenger cars accounted for almost 8.2 million and commercial vehicles a little over 1.4 million.
In the passenger car category, sports utility vehicles contributed more than 3.9 million towards the total, flat with the figure for the same period last year. Cars, too, held their own, a total of 3.8 million for the first five months of 2022 slightly up on the same period last year.
MPVs or people carriers declined by 25% to reach a total of just 300,000, but overall passenger car production declined by only 1.1%.
Manufacturers of commercial vehicles saw a much sharper decline, a fall of almost 40% year on year.
