Eleven-month figures show growth for Pakistan’s leather sector
Official figures from Pakistan’s Bureau of Statistics show export revenues of $900 million for the country’s leather industry in the first 11 months of the current financial year, the period from July 2021 to May 2022. This represents growth of 18% year on year.
Tanners exported 14.5 million square-metres of finished leather over these 11 months, earning export revenues of more than $190 million. This means tanners achieved export growth over the period of 40% in volume and of 31.5% in value year on year.
Exports of finished products, including garments but excluding shoes, contributed more than $560 million to the total, up by 12.5%.
Footwear manufacturers exported more than 17 million pairs over the period, earning $140 million. These figures represent growth of 16.4% in volume and of 25% in value.
