Kansas labelling law to protect genuine meat
Legislators in the US state of Kansas have moved to clarify which products on supermarket shelves are meat and which are meatless, made usually from plant-based ingredients but sometimes described in terms that confuse consumers.
The Kansas Legislative Assembly (KLA) has supported a bill that has come to be known as the “fake meat law”; it has been passed signed into law by Governor Laura Kelly.
As of July 1, the new law will require producers of alternative products to make it clear their products do not contain meat. The disclaimer must be displayed on the label in a prominent way and be located close to any reference to meat.
