Another billion-dollar month for US beef
For the third month in four this year, April’s beef exports from the US had a value of more than $1 billion. The US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) said April was a “huge month for beef exports”.
In volume terms, US packers exported just under 125,000 tonnes of beef, up by 3% on the same month in 2021. This is the fifth-largest monthly volume on record.
Revenues of $1.05 billion for the month meant growth of 33% year on year and were only slightly lower than the record figure of $1.07 billion that the industry posted in March 2022.
“Global demand for US beef continues to overcome enormous obstacles, from inflationary pressure and logistical challenges to the recent lockdowns in some of China’s major metropolitan areas,” said USMEF chief executive, Dan Halstrom.
Mr Halstrom warned, however, that the April results do not capture the full impact of recent covid-19 lockdowns in China, some of which continued into early June.
