Leather link-up likely between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan

26/05/2022

Pakistan is working to forge alliances with regional partners with a view to establishing international cooperation for its leather sector.

As reported by the local press, industry leaders from Kyrgyzstan recently met with two groups of Pakistani companies to evaluate the possibility of economic cooperation, with particular attention on the needs of the leather supply chain.

To begin with, the import of raw hides from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan could increase. Pakistan invested only $1.5 million in imports of raw hides and skins from Kyrgyzstan in 2021.

A second  point under discussion was whether Pakistan-based companies could make direct investments in Kyrgyzstan to install factories to produce finished products there. This would provide offshore manufacturing for Pakistan and industrial jobs for Kyrgyzstan, whose economy is still based mainly around agricultural production.
