Footwear firms urged to build partnerships
Research and innovation centre Inescop has asked footwear manufacturers and brands to form partnerships to help them fulfil the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Forming partnerships to meet the goals is, in itself, one of the SDGs, number 17 to be precise.
In urging companies to take up this challenge, Inescop said that the footwear industry had a clear example in SDG 17 of the truth of the old saying that there is strength in unity.
“Setting up strategic partnerships with research centres and joining business clusters and the networks connected to them are key factors in improving competitiveness,” the organisation said. “These steps can help companies increase their capacity for innovation, help them reduce costs and improve productivity.”
It added that joining forces with other public- or private-sector companies in the same sector was a good route to take for creating synergies and investing in joint projects, especially ones that will drive companies and projects towards a circular economy.
“Partnerships are a sign of strength,” Inescop said, “as well as being a way of contributing to the SDGs.”
