Growth for industry in Bangladesh
Tanners and leathergoods manufacturers in Bangladesh brought in export revenues of more than $1 billion in the first ten months of the current financial year, the period from July 2021 to April 2022.
This figure indicates an increase of more than 30% year on year and it now seems certain that the leather industry will surpass an export target of $1.03 billion that the country’s export promotion bureau set it for the full financial year.
Over the ten months, exports of leather footwear brought in more than $600 million, growth of over 30%. The figure for leathergoods was nearly $275 million, up by 34.5%, while finished leather exports had a value of more than $130 million, growth of 37%.
The government in Dhaka plans to boost the value of the country’s exports of leather and leathergoods to $12 billion by 2030.
